our story

We started Wild Outside with a simple belief:

nature is not just a destination,

it is a living story we belong to.

We started Wild Outside with a simple belief:

nature is not just a destination,

it is a living story we belong to.

Our journey began with a love for Sri Lanka’s untouched landscapes, its roaming elephants, its hidden lagoons, and its endless chorus of birds. But over time, we saw how fragile these wonders were, and how tourism often overlooked the deeper bond between people and the wild.

Wild Outside was created to change that. We design expeditions that go beyond sightseeing. Every journey is a conversation with the land, every encounter is a chance to listen to the stories that rivers, forests, and animals have been telling for centuries. From tracking elephants across open plains to waiting quietly in mangroves for a rare bird to appear, we believe in slow, meaningful adventures that stay with you long after you return home.

But our story is not only about exploration. It is also about responsibility. A part of every experience we create goes back into protecting habitats, supporting local communities, and funding groups who safeguard wildlife. Because to us, adventure means nothing if the wild cannot thrive for the generations after us.

Join us in writing the next chapter of this story—one where people and nature meet as equals, and where travel becomes a way of giving back.

Giving Back to the Wild

WE DON’T JUST TAKE PEOPLE INTO NATURE —WE GIVE BACK TO PROTECT IT.

WE DON’T JUST TAKE PEOPLE INTO NATURE —WE GIVE BACK TO PROTECT IT.

Wild Outside is built on a deep respect for the natural world — and we know that admiration alone isn’t enough. That’s why, as we grow, we’re committed to reinvesting a portion of our earnings into the people, projects, and activist groups working on the frontlines of conservation.

Whether it’s supporting anti-poaching units, funding wildlife corridors, or backing education programs for the next generation of nature guardians, our goal is to make sure that your journey doesn’t end at the trail — it extends into impact.

Have

Question?

What makes Wild Outside tours different from others?

Our journeys are not pre-packaged or generic. Every itinerary is designed in collaboration with naturalists, researchers, and local experts to immerse you in rare wildlife encounters, ecological storytelling, and conservation-driven experiences. We prioritize depth over speed, and insight over checklists.

Are the tours suitable for beginners or non-hikers?

Yes. Many Wild Outside tours are suitable for beginners and travelers with limited hiking experience. Each experience clearly outlines its physical requirements, pace, and terrain in advance. Where activities involve walking or trekking, routes are chosen thoughtfully, and guides adapt the experience based on the group’s comfort and ability. No technical hiking skills are required unless explicitly stated.

Is it safe to travel in remote wildlife areas?

Safety is a core priority. All tours are led by experienced field guides with deep local knowledge and wildlife training. Routes are planned based on seasonal conditions, animal movement patterns, and environmental risk assessments. We also maintain clear safety protocols, emergency preparedness measures, and responsible wildlife viewing practices to ensure both guest safety and animal welfare.

Can I book a private or customized experience?

Yes. Wild Outside offers private and fully customized journeys for individuals, couples, families, or small groups. These experiences are co-created based on your interests, travel dates, pace preferences, and areas of curiosity, whether that is wildlife photography, conservation learning, or slow exploration. Private journeys allow for deeper flexibility and a more personal connection with the landscape and guides.

What should I pack for a typical Wild Outside tour?

Packing requirements vary slightly by destination and season, but generally include comfortable, breathable clothing in neutral colors, sturdy walking shoes, sun protection, and reusable water bottles. Once you book, you will receive a detailed, destination-specific packing guide covering clothing, gear, and optional items to ensure you are well prepared without overpacking.

How does Wild Outside support local communities & conservation?

Wild Outside works closely with local guides, trackers, researchers, and community partners to ensure tourism directly benefits the regions visited. A portion of each journey contributes to conservation initiatives, habitat protection, and local livelihoods. By prioritizing small groups, ethical wildlife practices, and local expertise, Wild Outside supports long-term conservation efforts rather than extractive tourism models.
